Thanks for considering Shell Campground. We are the closest full service campground to Big Horn National Forest, located conveniently on US Highway 14 - a Wyoming scenic byway and a main route between Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower and Yellowstone National Park.

The Big Horn mountains and basin have a lot to offer - whether a hunter, fisher or snowmobiler, or just looking for beautiful views drives along one of the many scenic drives in the immediate area. Our newest and most unique stay: a beautifully restored 1915 schoolhouse with exclusive after-hours access to the attached Wild West Dino Den museum — including Big Al, one of the most complete Allosaurus specimens ever found, discovered right here near Shell.

9 cabins, 8 RV sites (remodeled 2026) and 4 glamping tents. We're a great place to stay for your Big Horn basecamp.

Store

Old Shell Store is a block and a half away. Serving the best burgers and made-from-scratch pastries in the basin. Also selling convenience items, ORV tags and Game & Fish licenses.

Looking for a trail ride? Want to learn how to fly fish? How about hunting with an expert local guide? Get the most from your time in the Big Horn Basin. We work with a local outfitter that will create a family vacation like you never imagined! Call for details.

Wonderful little cabin. Clean and comfortable. Nice campground in a very small little town. Shell Falls along the road to Sheridan is spectacular. Very happy we took a detour through the area on the way home.

Cute, comfy,peaceful, and well organized. Liked the folk who stay here. Intimate campground on a small property. Drive here through BigHorn forest was incredible. Stopped at Shell Creek waterfalls on the way, lovely.

I would recommend this place to anyone! My husband, grandparents, and our dogs stayed in the “glamping tents,” and LOVED them! They were so clean, and cute. The views were gorgeous, and the bathrooms were neat and sanitized. Everything felt very safe, we loved being there!
