We knew when we moved to the mountains that we would be surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife, but we’ve discovered so much more in the short time we’ve been here.  Our top five favorites in Shell, WY so far are as follows…

5. Wildlife viewing. We have so much wildlife in and around our area.  You don’t have to go very far to see sheep, elk, moose, turkey, deer, eagles and lots more.

4. Fishing. Shell Valley and its surrounding area boasts a variety of amazing fishing in our lakes and streams.

3. Hiking.  No matter your experience or energy level, there is a breath-taking hike in Shell Valley.  From Shell Falls, which is just a few steps from Highway 14, to backpacking 22 miles to Cloud Peak and everything between.

2. Horseback riding. If you’re looking for a unique mountain experience, check out Tangle Ridge Outfitters & Guides. They are located just a few miles from our campground and offer a variety of trail ride options.

1. Driving the scenic mountain roads.

We are so excited to live right on Scenic Byway 14.

Bonus: Many are unaware of Shell’s fossil-rich history.  We are eager to learn more about the dinosaurs that once inhabited our campground!!  After meeting with some local experts, we have learned about some of the major discoveries made right in our area. You can experience some of it by stopping at the track site just up the road from our campground or learn more by visiting Geoscience Adventures.
